The head of GINSHODO:
SHINOBU OGOSHI
About 400 years ago, TOSHINAGA MAEDA, the founder of Takaoka, encouraged artisans from Kansai living close to Takaoka to create a traditional arts city when he founded Takaoka. The artisans competed with each other for skills in making copper ware, silver ware and lacquer ware. Takaoka doki (Takaoka copperware) and Takaoka shiki (Takaoka lacquerware) have been handed down until now. Head’s grandfather started making Buddhist altar fittings called Japanese general art after being a pupil of Takaoka craftsman. They supported Japanese art by cooperating with local craftsman as well as metalworkers and lacquerworkers who represent Japan. The head is now devoted to making top-level works cooperating with artisans in Takaoka and Japan. GINSHODO is near Zuiryu-ji Temple which is recognized by the Japanese government as a national treasure. GINSHODO will do best to hand Takaoka・Japanese Arts down to the next generation.Zuishin
